iran!? come on now sheeple….
You heard the news and now your dander is up
OK. But slow down there cowpoke. Let’s think about this for a minute. And trust me, I am not a 9/11 truther nor a big conspiracy theorist. However, neither am I an insensate tool. This doesn’t make sense. If there was ever any kernel of fact to the “weapons of mass destruction lies” story (and I must say I don’t believe so, nor do I in any way think that President Bush participated if there was) this will dwarf it in comparison…..if we ever hear the rest of the story.
Amateur Hour
You may hold the Iranian leadership in very low regard (as I do) for their dastardly pronouncements and actions. Their treatment of their own citizens, women, gays, Christians and others is antithetical to our core beliefs. Nevertheless it would be imbecilic to equate their election to terrorize their citizens with ideals which were out of vogue by the stone age with lack of savvy, intelligence or cunning.
They have citizens with the same bell curve natural talents as we do, and probably a longer term outlook and more patience in their foreign policy.
The comical Inspector Clouseau follies of the folks who have been implicated is prima facie exculpatory evidence for nearly any state actor – certainly one as large, conniving and strong as Iran. (Soetoro has known about it since June. The spy vs. spy game has been going on for months, with direct communication by phone to the “handler” in Iran. Trips back and forth across borders and ample opportunity for attracting attention – hardly the hallmarks of deep cover and capable agents.)
It simply defies reasonable scrutiny that any state actor would pursue such a plan these days directly. If one were to do so it would be with extraordinarily capable people and would not even employ dimwits of this magnitude despite numerous cutouts and dead ends – much less directly. But let’s put that aside for a moment and stipulate that it might have been them.
OK – what might they gain?
Iran’s interests
There are certainly some in Iran who fervently desire a globally encompassing caliphate with Persians at the helm. And they can certainly see who effectively the use of our own laws and hesitancies has allowed the caliphate to migrate to substantial parts of Western Europe, and soon to areas in Canada and the US. But these assasinations and attack would facilitate that how?
What Iran really wants is to be comfortable that with its lack of natural resources (except low-grade oil), uncooperative terrain (that retards commerce and agriculture) and large, young population they won’t also threatened by attack and invasion from neighbors and other powers. They may desire the destruction of Israel (but more likely that is an inflammatory rallying cry) and may wish to extend (either formally or through subterfuge) their control over swaths of the Sunni territories which about them (and they fear threaten them.) The methods they use to accomplish this are shrewd, repugnant and antithetical to our “american mind” but have thus far been amazingly effective. In fact they have kept the US at bay, busy dithering and preoccupied while Iran’s fondest wish has been realized. By patiently waiting, and with strategic and tactical brilliance playing groups off each other to destabilize the new Iraq and neighbors, they have created precisely the scenario they imagined. And now they are on the cusp of US withdrawal (they are even controlling much of the internal Iraqi debate over vestigial US basing which might act as at least a minimal deterrent to potential radical expansion of Persian hegemony.) With that set to occur within the strategic equivalent of the “blink of an eye” what possible motivation would they have to disrupt US withdrawal and to bring the hammer of the US, Israel and others down upon them.
(Putting aside for a moment their repulsive “diahrea of the mouth” one must also recognize that when real threats emerge to our security they must be met with force. Indeed overwhelming force is the only “reason” that barbarians understand. However, although barbarism toward their own people is tragic, it may only be rhetoric toward our security. And when we do use force, we must do so unforgivingly, dramatically and overwhelmingly. And it must be quickly concluded and we must return promptly to our own shores. These never ending expeditionary employments of our military are unacceptable and damaging to our nation. I do not subscribe to the theory that our presence overseas makes islamists hate us – they do anyway as a byproduct of their leaders’ efforts at transference of responsibility for their backward status. Nevertheless this video is worth watching to at least ponder. How would we feel if others did to us as we to them? [overlook if you can the peace/love/ron paul overtones and just listen.] It would be even worse than the police state in which we already live. Read and Read and Read)
And with today’s news, of course, we find denials from Iran. Aside from the denials (carefully crafted to appear to be clumsy lies) regarding development of WMDs, and silence regarding their human rights abuses, when has Iran denied anything? They revel in highlighting the impotence of emperor Soetoro and his ilk. Yet they come forth to deny this…..
It is not only implausible, it is ludicrous. There was no strategic or tactical reason for Iran to undertake this effort.
In contrast, let’s look at the cast of those whose interest is served by American fury focused on Iran?
The list is long and the cast diverse. Of course the fact that some person/group/state’s interest would be served doesn’t mean they were complicit in creating strife. Nevertheless they would benefit. If Iran doesn’t, then it is reasonable to at least examine who might.
Al Mamlakah al Arabiyah as Sa’udiyah
Otherwise known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – or one of the stops on Soetoro’s world apology tour. They have been frantically beseeching the US to retain presence in the region to protect them from the Persians. With Sadam Hussein gone, they fear the possible flood of Shi’as swarming cross the sands to disrupt the fragile hold the royal family holds on its repressed citizens.
Israel
Certainly an important US ally in the region – but importantly (and understandably) they are an ally to the extent that our common democratic ideals, financial interests and bonds of faith entwine us, but are ultimately and exclusively loyal to Israel.
Neocons
John Bolton (god bless him for his vigorous defense of American independence against the attempts of the rest of the world to waylay us at the UN – and in his defense he has the balls to state that the only way to deal with evil force with is overwhelming opposing force) has wanted to decimate Iran for years. He is prominent, but hardly unique. There are a number of sympathetic “statesmen” in the US who would celebrate (at least privately) our taking that action.
Military Industrial Complex
Ike (of course a preeminent military man in his own right) warned us. Watch his address here. And it happened that the story broke the very day following the announcement Army CoC Odierno that there will be massive reductions in army manpower (elimination of brigades and all the commensurate support and infrastructure.) 10 years of active war have been a bonanza to companies (and this needn’t imply any fraud or mal intent – merely capitalizing on opportunity) who supply the military. The impending reductions appear cataclysmic to some whose business growth trajectories have been nearly vertical.
Attorney General Eric Holder
He lied. He knows it. We know it. Rep Darryl Issa knows it. (He is, as noted here before, a creep.) Not only should he lose his office but he should go to jail. not only for perjury but also for the despicable way he has instructed that a myriad of civil rights cases be handled in his department. Odd that just the day before subpoenas were served on him, he had the opportunity to stand before the nation presenting himself as our protector and guardian – exemplifying all things reasonable and rational in a crazy world.
Obama Soetoro
And one can hardly overlook this one. They guy who may be the first to concede an election before the voting – who is so reviled and disrespected by folks across the entire spectrum – that perhaps the only thing which would allow him to retain his craven grasp of power is a crisis. A war itself would likely be mismanaged by the dithering incompetent purple-lipped (oxygen deprived from his hypocritical chain smoking habit) fool – but a crisis during election season would be manna from heaven. He could “negotiate” the Iranians – who didn’t do this to begin with – to a reasonable position and claim the mantle of consummate statesman.
————————————————————————————————————————————
And if you doubt for a moment that the MIC, the mendacious Holder or the pusillanimous and contemptible Obama would employ such dastardly ploys…then I have a bridge to sell you. Wake up.
So what might explain it?
So you ask the reasonable question. Assuming the whole thing wasn’t made up…assuming that there were actually a couple jamokes running around “planning” and “preparing” to do this, what/who got them going? Fair question – but the validity of my position does not hing on my positing the actual answer. Nevertheless a couple scenarios to consider.
1. Iran sent their hit man to Mexico because they heard that Holder and his tools had made lots of “Fast and Felonious” (hat tip to Michelle Malkin) weapons available there. They just wanted to make a large and cheap weapons buy.
2. Seriously, the only other reasonable scenario is that this was intentionally created by factions at war with each other within the iranian government. It is plausible that tensions have risen to such levels that one faction hopes to so compromise another that they can seize control. Intentionally engaging clueless goobers (who would believe they are reporting directly to someone senior in the Quds guards) they knew they would be detected – and the misinformation which they had been fed revealed, thus causing crippling embarrassment to their enemies within the government.
3. Another state which has taken the measure of our civilian “leadership” (and found it to be pathetically wanting) have created a scenario designed to preoccupy the US with another middle eastern entanglement (costing time and treasure) to allow them time to solidify their position globally. China, and certainly Russia come to mind here.
but to sum it up…..

“So far, however, the allegations regarding the plot dont seem overwhelmingly convincing — certainly not to the point of persuading the international community to isolate the Islamic republic.”
